Time for a game update, huh? March 1 was always going to be a slim deadline so the new expected finish date is some time at the end of this month. Bear in mind that we’ve been full timing this game since November 2010, so we have done a LOT of work and the game is already playable and, I must add, enjoyable.
For me, most of the remaining work is new level and region assets for interesting, non-repetitive progression through the game. For Sean, implementing all the assets, expanding the structure of the game and optimising it so it doesn’t crash the moment someone opens it.
What’s done so far is a world map containing three training levels, and two full gameplay levels complete with incredible music, weather effects and end-level stats. All of this takes place in the grasslands of Brackenwood (think littleFoot). I’m almost finished creatures and art for region 2: South Forest (below), where levels 3 & 4 take place. After that, region 3 will be the North Forest (another forest with a completely different feel) for levels 5 & 6.
All up, we’re aiming for 4 regions, so the full game will have between 8-10 levels. Incidentally, this is just 4 regions, but there’s room on the World Map for many more. Yep we have left plenty of room for a planned expansion, should the game be popular enough.
