Deadline

March 28th

This week's topic is "Robots Among Us"

So I was watching a movie on Hulu, and this commercial comes on. It shows a little disc-looking robot chasing a hand drawn dog across the screen, picking up its hair as it runs around. Now I don't know if it works that well on real dogs, but it inspired me to do this topic.

The idea is that you come up with a submission showing robots performing some kind of task.

I'd like to leave this one pretty open-ended, just thinking about the weird and awesome things that can come from this is cool. Sure we can technically claim that your programmable coffee maker is a robot. So the only real requirements that are going to follow this topic is: if you are doing a robot that is commonplace in our lives, it has to be clearly modified/altered. So the coffeepot better have a moving home security laser grid... or legs so you don't even have to get out of bed to go get it. Wink

You could even come up with your own idea for a robot entirely. How cool would a fully functional robot dinosaur be at a theme park? Really cool is the answer! Or some little home robot that spends all day scouring your house to get rid of any cockroaches or rats or ants? Or some kind of military robot? Tons of possibilities.

And including a description of your robot would be great. Maybe even how you came up with it.

The picture format can be a maximum of 1000 x 1000.
CLEARLY DESIGNATE YOUR FINAL, in order for us to put the right piece in the vote thread.
WIP's are encouraged, feel free to show everyone how your illustration is progressing.
Please save your entry as, for example. "myname_wda56.jpg".
A vote thread will be made after the deadline to determine the winner. Votes can come from any forum member.
One extension will be provided, if needed.

Think of something great! And have fun with this topic.

Sorry about the double post but I want to make sure people read this.

Please someone join you don't have to be super artistically skilled to join the wda.
If you find joy in making art, this is the thread for you We still have a week to put something together.
If anyone would like I will scrap my current project and start all over again.
Don't let this thread die again.

here is a preview of my current work (i'm kinda cheating using filters and such)

I'll definitely be participating in this one - just want to have some sketches to put up as WIPs before I posted. Looks like you've already got a good start on yours!

Decided to narrow the theme for my brainstorming. I brought it down to a core question - "How many robots does it take to change a lightbulb?" I also wanted to work on drawing with one strong light source. After a lengthy battle with my scanner, I present to you this low-quality version of some of my brainstorming sketches.

I've got four different ideas going on here. Each has benefits. Humanoid bot replacing lightbulb (upper right) is probably the clearest, and the robot is nice and science-fictiony, if a bit cliched. I can play with the robot's design the most here. The robot with a lightbulb head (center) is the cleverest and funniest idea; why build a robot to change a lightbulb if it can change itself? This idea leads to the spider filament bot (lower right) - rather than replacing the whole bulb, it simply fixes the filament, so the lightbulb can be used again. Probably lives inside the bulb itself. Sort of cool. Problem is, then I'm not really experimenting with a single strong light source, which I want. The last option, a stack of robots (lower left) is really the only one that answers the core question with something other than "1", and is the most interesting technologically. However, I'm not sure if it would be at all clear, and it wouldn't be easy to draw.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Image shack is being tricky nowadays.  i can't see any posts unless I log in.  I can't troll around invisibly no more hehe.

I started on something cause I missed the last one . sorry about that Snowman.  Your thumbs are really nice Beamish boy.  It's a good  thing to do thumbs.

I've already refined some bits but mostly laying down values.  I decided to take the topic on a more "they're living among us" and we're unaware.  The little robot peeps living in one of our electronic devices (i saw my mouse lying there and BING i gots me an idea  Bingbong) More to come if i find some time to finish. Cheers.

as final as i'm gonna get it Smiley
