I was given an assignment about 5 weeks back to make a game using Software called "Game Maker" after finally given up and I was wandering what language would be a quick one to make a game?

I have 7 weeks left before I have to submit it.

?
Are you saying you need to make it in game maker or are looking for an alternative?

Anyway, try Scirra Construct and follow the "Ghost Shooter" tutorial and go from there, it's great for rapid development and has a low learning curve. It uses a logic event system, and something they call 'behaviors' which are archetypal predefined functions. It's often compared to game maker tough I never tried gamemaker myself.

Yes. I beat IWBTG. Only took ~60 hours of play.

If you are looking for a straight up language to code in, using OpenGL in C++ is pretty painless, assuming you follow some tutorials online.  There are even game-specific tutorials, if you are allowed to do that, though make sure they don't count it as plagarism.
