Hi
I am using CS4 on Vista-64, and I am trying to figure out how to avoid certain bugs and crashes;
I've experiences some crashes when I try to edit some specific symbols (frame by frame). My theory is that when the vector shape becomes a bit too advanced or multicolored, Flash can't handle the manipulation of the symbol, when inside another symbol, inside another symbol, etc.
I try to have as few layers as possible on my main timeline, by putting everything into graphic symbols.
I also experienced crashes when I scrub in the timeline (and I do that ALOT), and when I tried to resize the whole Flash application window, by dragging.
About bugs:
Sometimes I select a keyframe, and it stays selected, which is annoying when I want to add more frames for all layers with F5. Anyone knows this problem too? And how do you solve it?
And another bug, which is very annoying is that; when I edit a specific symbol and go one step back outside that symbol, the changes are not visible when draggin the timeline, unless I Save and Compact file.
Please tell me, if there are more bugs I should be aware of, and if you know any solution of the bugs that I have already mentioned, please write them: or at least how YOU handle them. Every program has it's bugs: it's just the question, how you learn to live with them.

I haven't run into any of those crashes or bugs, except for the keyframe focus one (sort of). I'm using Windows XP 32-bit, though.
One thing that I've found irritating with CS4 is that it no longer auto-focuses on the stage. When you change a setting like color or size by typing in a new setting and pressing enter, it used to focus back to the stage. Now you have to click the stage before doing anything to it, which is annoying if you have the brush selected since you're then forced to draw on the stage to select it. So yeah, you have to do a lot of pointless extra clicking now.

There's a patch being released very soon. Being on the testing team I can't confirm or deny specifics, but they've already improved the stability which fixes a lot of those annoying smaller bugs. FYI, the nested symbols bug was near the top of the list.

I found an annoying bug in CS4. When I've just started up the program the command keyboard shortcuts dont work. A popup shows saying 'An error occured opening file "'. I have to go up to the drop-down list and select the command. Not until then the keyboard shortcut will work. I have a very handy shortcut for deleting multiple selected frames, and when it wont work I go crazy, its just so frustrating.

As do I. CS4 is the buggiest release of Flash ever. Nice job Adobe. Kinda makes me long for the good ol Macromedia team again.

They should just have left it as it is, and focusing on fixing the remaning bugs in stead of rewriting it in their own crappy code and interface If the older (Macromedias) Flash versions would not be unstable on my Vista64, or frequently corrupt my FLA's, I would still have used them. Actually I have accepted all the CS4 bugs and learned to live with them by developing habbit of going "around them". For instance; very often the changes of a symbol is not updated in the main timeline, but I fix it by saving and compacting. Tedious in the long run, but since there is no other way, I see no reason being frustrated about it.

There's a patch being released very soon.
Question: how soon is "very soon?" Because it's been three freaking months since I've heard of this patch, and there still is no patch. Or is Adobe releasing this patch as CS5?
