Wow! That must really be something. I don’t really believe in ghosts, but it seems to be as surreal as reliving a horror story. But, something like this happend to me while I was in melbourne. But I dismissed all of it as it was from age and design that the house will make those noises. But rather than see it as terrifying, I felt more relaxed as if I was listening to the sounds of the bush.
My tip is to think about other things rather than dark scary stuff.
But as a writer, I sometimes absorb and listen to it, and begin to use these sensations for the basis for my writing.
To me, it’s all fun and experiences that I will never forget.

Fantastic account, thank you for sharing it. Read it first years ago and still sends shivers up my spine today.

I’ve shared the experience of ‘Wolf’ here in the comments where, at times, we would suddenly have two cats instead of one.
Our cat would be lying with us in bed and we’d hear ‘the other cat’ playing with her toys in the front room.

I can hear stuff like that in my house too, like things are falling, someone’s walking, even as my dog is asleep in my bed I can hear “him” trying to get up from the stairs with his paws and claws and everything and I hate my room and have done since I was a kid it always feel as if something really hates me there and stares at me pretty much all the time, I have the weirdest (and most scary) dreams there and once when I was trying to sleep, something hit my door really hard, my dog heard it too so Im not the only one, my father and sister hear things like that also.
Sometimes we hear scratching and doors opens by themselves right in front of our eyes. A long time ago my father and I heard how a door upstairs constantly opened and closed itself fast and violently. Lamps can also get turned off for no reason at nights. I have also seen a dark gray cat with green eyes looking at me, sitting at the stairs and also once I saw it as it was coming out from behind the TV. Its so weird couse the cat doesn’t look like a spirit, I see it clear like a living cat.
I always thought to myself that I was insane who saw it and never told about it to anyone. But once my cousin slept here a night, he had a similar, scary dream that I sometimes have and he told me that he saw a dark gray cat with green eyes in my house- just like I had! Still I can walk in nearly complete darkness in my house. I’m used to all this, it doesn’t scare me so much anymore. I have been in much worser houses.

This reminds me of a creepy place I visited in a dream once.. it was entirely lit by lanterns and there were creepy cats that hid in closets full of moth-eaten clothing. I can’t remember any locked rooms, but while I was reading this I pictured that house in my mind.
By the way, that link to the Magistrate’s House website leads to nothing. The site must have been shut down.
